LEZIGNAN, FRANCE -- If you want to enjoy a glass of wine without expanding your waistline, France has developed a low calorie wine, "So Light". It packs 60 calories a glass, about the same as a carton of sugar-free yogurt. It also has less alcohol content than regular wine.

"So Light" and targets the health-conscious population.

The new wine was developed by the French Wine Research Center, and was created by growing grapes with less sugar.
It also involves a new distilling process that lowers the regular alcohol content of wine from 13 percent to nine percent.

The wine is virtually sugar-free.

"We are targeting a population that is very conscious of eating and drinking healthily. They also want to watch their weight and also don't want to lose points on their driving license if they drink," explains Claude Vialade, one of the vintners behind "So Light".
The vintners say wine enthusiasts can't tell the difference between this wine and one with a higher alcohol content.
They expect to sell several million bottles within the next three years.
