CAB transition to Organic certification

The most famous akene is undoubtedly the dandelion as depicted in Larousse dictionaries.
This botanical term refers to a dry fruit that is not fused to its seed.
Akene illustrates our work towards subtainable vineyard management and our pledge that a natural approach should become the hallmark of Languedoc wines. Imbued with the vlaues advocated by Jean Vialade as early the 1970s - as chairman of Europe's first 100% organic co-operative winery - we have been promoting ecological transition by providing support over 5 years to help winegrowers switch to organic farming.

The CAB endorsement (Conversion Agriculture Biologique or Organic Farming Switch-Over) guarantees the intrinsic qualities of organic wines, in accordance with European regulations. Akène is the signature name for the CABV range which stems from our partnership with winegrowers who have made a commitment to join us in our ecological transition.

The wines themselves show a clear hue and fruitiness with freshness on the nose and fine, soft tannins.

Grape-variety Syrah, Grenache
Soil The vineyards are located in the coastal part of the Fitou appellation, at an elevation of between 0 and 5 metres. They benefit from the mild influence of Leucate lagoon. The farm is situated on clay-limestone soils.
Winemaking The winery houses small stainless steel tanks, all of them equipped with temperature control, that allow each vineyard and grape variety to be fermented separately. The grapes are picked by hand and brought to the winery with no added sulphur. The fruit is protected in the hopper using dry ice and then macerates at low temperatures in an air-free environment for 2 to 4 hours in the press. The juice is cold clarified and racked before fermentation. After a small amount of yeast is added, fermentation occurs at low temperatures – 14-16°C – to promote the development of aroma.
Tasting Note Brilliant pinkish hue with purple tints. Persistent, aromatic nose of boiled sweets. Notes of stewed fruits and crushed red fruits on the palate which is fresh, aromatic and long-lasting. Drinking temperature: 10-12°C.
